Highlight: Ethical numbing
Repeated exposure to ethical misconduct can produce a form of “ethical numbing,” which is how cultures of cheating take root.
The more that people see others cheat, the less they regard it as cheating.
This is evident in AI use in academic contexts. Students feel justified in using it because so many other students are, and they think they will be left behind if they don’t follow suit.
